Kuwait Extends Driver's License Validity for Expats to 5 Years
Tuesday, July 29, 2025 Kuwait

Kuwait has officially extended the validity of driver's licenses for expatriates to 5 years — a major relief for residents who previously had to renew more frequently.

New validity: 5 years
Applies to: Eligible expat residents

For Kuwaiti citizens and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nationals, the license will be valid for 15 years. For expatriates, it will be valid for 5 years. For expatriates, it will be valid for 5 years, while for illegal residents, it will be valid according to the validity of their identification card.

Previously, Kuwait had shortened expatriate license validity to just one year, while maintaining a 10-year period for Kuwaitis. The recent change follows an earlier adjustment several months ago, whhen Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah raised the validity period for expats to three years. The new five-year validity takes effect immediately.
