Qatar Issues 30-Day Deadline to Renew Expired Vehicle Registrations – July 2025

On 27 July 2025, the Qatar Ministry of Interior (MOI) issued a directive urging vehicle owners with expired registrations (Istimara) exceeding the legal period defined by Article 11 of Traffic Law No. 19 of 2007 to renew or rectify their status within 30 days—failure to comply may result in legal action.

The General Directorate of Traffic emphasized that this move aims to ensure full compliance with traffic regulations and promote road safety. Vehicle registrations must be renewed either through the Metrash2 mobile app, the MOI e-services portal, or at Fahes inspection centers.

Renewing the Istimara requires a valid Fahes inspection certificate, updated insurance, and payment of the renewal fees (typically QR 100‑150 annually). Vehicles that exceed the 30‑day grace period may be subjected to fines of up to QR 500 or impoundment.

Vehicle owners are strongly advised to act promptly. Continued use of an unregistered vehicle could lead to higher penalties and vehicle impoundment under traffic enforcement laws.
